Amar Ananda

Amar Ananda translates to ‘My Happiness’, but happiness is a kind of luxury among adolescent girls in West Bengal who face innumerable social hindrances in their daily lives. FPC wanted to help these girls find their happiness by providing a range of opportunities for self-empowerment and broadening their futures. Thus, the Amar Ananda Project was born.

This endeavour has been implemented in 10 villages of Falta block, South 24 Parganas. The initiative works with girls aged 11-18 years and engages stakeholders such as the families of girls, teachers and community leaders. Through this program, we help the girls to develop the skills they need to assert themselves and reclaim their rights, elevate their self-confidence and discourage harmful social practices that degrade their self-respect such as child marriage and sexual harassment.
